Note: Tenant credit screening requires the tenant’s written permission prior to placing an order.
It’s the law! You are not allowed to order a tenant credit report without abiding by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 USC 16810) which requires the tenant’s written authorization. This written authorization must be stored for 5 years in case there is an audit.
A copy of your rights and the tenant’s is defined in the FCRA. Visit the Federal Trade Commission’s website to read the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
